Sri Bala Aruliya Sri Bala Trisathi | Uma Kumar (2023)
August 25th, 2023.
Introduction:
On August 22nd, 2023, I was directed by Shri Bala to compose a “Trisathi” or a set of 300 lines in Tamil in praise of her. This was to be modelled on the syllables of the Maha Shodasi mantra containing 16 beeja or seed mantras. While the famous Sri Lalitha Trisathi is written in Sanskrit and contains the seed letters of the powerful panchadasi mantra (15 syllables), Bala Trisathi is a little bit different in that, at the end, the 16th, most potent and auspicious syllable, “Shreem” is used.
The 15 syllables of the panchadasi mantra are: “KA, EA, EE, LA, HREEM; HA SA KA HA LA; HREEM, SA, KA, LA, HREEM”. Adding the sixteenth seed mantra, “Shreem” to the 15 syllables, gives us the powerful Shodasi Mantra.
In this composition called “Sri Bala Trisathi”, there are 20 lines in praise of the Divine Child, for each of the 15 seed syllables. For example, there are 20 lines starting with the letter “KA” in Tamil, 20 more lines with words beginning with the sound “EA”, etc. Hence 15 *20 =300. And at the end there are four lines preceded by the mantra, “Shreem”.
When this thought was first put into my mind by Shri Bala, I had no clue how to begin. Yet, in her usual mischievous manner, Sri Bala made the impossible task possible. She placed in my mind a never-ending flow of words that stopped finally, after I had written 304 in praise of her shining glory.
I did this work in about 6 hours over three days with the bulk of the writing taking place on August 24th.
I was asked to make an audio recording and send it to a few people on the auspicious Friday, 25th August, which happened to be Vara Mahalakshmi Nombu. This function heralds the advent of the Goddess of wealth, prosperity and good fortune into our homes. We invite the Godess to our homes, perform puja and offer her many sweetmeats as neivedyam or offering.
Well, the only offering Shri Bala made me do on the 25th, was to record her “Trisathi”.
In what follows I shall attempt an English Transliteration of the Tamil lines I have written, followed by the meaning.
As always, before I commence this work, I offer my salutations at the feet of Lord Ganesha and my Guru, Shri Bala Tripurasundari.
A reading or hearing of this powerful hymn is sure to bestow all good fortune, luck, peace and prosperity to all of you. Shri Bala resides in each single word, blessing us and loving all of us!
